Walking through the Alblasserwaard

In the Alblasserwaard you walk under high skies through a wide landscape. A nice route to get a breath of fresh air and recharge the battery. First you walk along the river De Alblas. Here you can see the characteristic landscape of the Alblasserwaard: grasslands, pollard willows and ditches with flowery banks. You pass the Kooijwijkse Molen, a polder mill from 1866. The Souburgse Molen dates from 1860, but was dismantled in 1997. Then you walk along the path into the polder. You will hardly find people here, but you will find peace and space. From junction 41 you walk along the Achterwaterschap, a fourteenth-century canal that was built for the water management of the Alblasserwaard. You walk back to Vertoeven bij Verhoeven over a beautiful footpath and a car-free road.
