Counting windmills along the Dutch lakes

The Kagerplassen, the Wijde Aa, the Westeinder Plassen: you will not lack beautiful Dutch pictures during this watery route. You will also pass through some worth seeing villages and the Bollenstreek. That will be fun for a day!

Wide Aa
From the picturesque Kaag you sail with a boat to the other side of the lake. A wonderful nostalgic trip in beautiful surroundings. In a short time you will pass three polder mills: the seventeenth-century Vrouw Venne, the Hoogmadese Molen and the Vlietmolen. On the cycle path along the Wijde Aa you can grab a bench to enjoy the view over the grasslands and the ancient peat stream.

Fort at Kudelstaart
From the road you look out over the Westeinder Plassen. You drive past the Fort near Kudelstaart, a little further on is a monumental water tower from 1928. Just outside Aalsmeer you drive past the small-scale Oosteinderpoel nature reserve, a remnant of the landscape from before the reclamation. Here you will find the Zwarte Ruiter, a former flour mill from 1778. Via the Haarlemmermeerse Bos and the adjacent Prins Bernhardbos you drive into the colorful Bollenstreek. You can still see the Hogeveense mill from 1654 here.
