Steenbergen, North Brabant, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 764116
Provided by: Groots Genieten
A day of blowing away in a wide and watery landscape? Then go cycling in the northwest of Brabant. You will find a surprising amount of peace and space here.
Sea dike
In this part of Brabant you do not ride through dense forests, but over winding dikes through polders where for centuries the threat of seawater lurked. Sometimes the wind has free rein, sometimes you ride sheltered between a hedge of trees, such as on the North Sea dike.
Steenbergen
On your route you will find some characteristic villages, such as Stampersgat and Standdaarbuiten. Further on you will pass Steenbergen, a former fortified town with a pleasant old centre. Fort Henricus is a former fortress from 1626 and has been partly restored. On the Steenbergse Vliet you will see the Benedensas: a restored monumental lock complex from 1824. Around the lock there are beautiful historical buildings. From the lock gate you have a beautiful view of the Dintelse Gorzen nature reserve.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
