The Wieden and Staphorst Forestry

Soon you will enter Boswachterij Staphorst. Here you will find a heath remnant where you can see what the area looked like before the forest was created in 1930. Rouveen is a beautiful village where you can see some authentic Staphorst farms. Then you will cycle through the Olde Maten, a rough peat meadow area. The beautiful Zwartsluis was once a transit port for the transport of Drenthe peat to Holland. At Sint-Jansklooster you have a beautiful view from the 45-metre-high top of the former Water Tower. Here you cycle through the Wieden, one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. In Nijeveen you will pass De Sterrenberg, a corn mill from 1786. In the Reestdal you will pass the Havixhorst, a manor house with a centuries-old history.
