The Bommelerwaard is a quiet region between Maas and Waal. You drive wonderfully quietly on small roads that wind through the meadows and orchards. You regularly come across a historical landmark.
Nederhemert Castle
You've only just left if you can already get off to look at the Castle of Well. Further on is another fine example of Gelderland cultural history: Castle Nederhemert originally dates from 1300. With a ferry you cross the Dammed Maas, nice and nostalgic! Across the street is the Gebr. Remmerde, a corn mill from the eighteenth century.
Ammersoyen Castle
From the dikes you have a beautiful view over the floodplains and the water of the Maas and (from Zuilichem) the Waal. Get some fresh air and recharge the battery! At the bottom of the dike you regularly see a monumental farm. Just before junction 9 you pass the Lieskampen, a rugged nature reserve consisting of bowl soils. On the outskirts of Ammerzoden you can admire Kasteel Ammersoyen, one of the best preserved authentic medieval castles in the Netherlands.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
