Description
Zoutkamp is a special town on the Groningen Reitdiep, ideal to discover through a walk. In the countryside you will find peace, space and beautiful villages.
Reitdiep
From Camping de Rousant you walk towards Zoutkamp. This town used to be located on the Lauwerszee, Zoutkamp has a past as a fishing town and fortified town. You cross the Reitdiep over a monumental lock from 1877, and at the harbor you see some old wooden houses. Via the Spookbos you walk onto the footpath along the Reitdiep. In the polder you will then experience the characteristic peace and space that Groningen is known for.
Tea factory
In Houwerzijl you see some nice houses. You also pass the Tea Factory. In a former church from 1862 and an adjacent parsonage from 1870, a tea museum, shop and restaurant are located here, special! You cross the Hunsingo Canal via Zuidema\\\'sklap, a monumental drawbridge from 1879. A little later you pass De Gans, a polder mill from 1850. You cross the Hunsingo Canal again, this time via the Hunsingo lock from 1859.
