Description

This route takes you through Bovenkarspel and Broekerhaven, two villages that have grown together near Enkhuizen. You pass some sights and the shore of the Markermeer.

Marker lake
The route starts at the edge of the polder. You walk into the wide landscape of straight ditches and vast fields and grasslands. Get a breath of fresh air, so that you immediately forget your daily routine. On the edge of Broekerhaven you can walk into the lee, because the footpath here leads you through an elongated park. You will pass Europarcs Resort Markermeer, a beautiful holiday park on the banks of the Markermeer. Time for a break with a drink and snack.

Ceres
Just past Europarcs Resort Markermeer is the Grootslag II, a former steam pumping station from 1907. This pumping station once drained the Grootslag polder into the Zuiderzee. Further on you see a monumental overhaul: an installation for towing a ship overland from one body of water to another. This was done to bridge a difference in water level. The Ceres is a beautiful thatched corn mill, it dates from 1849.
