A day in West Friesland

West Friesland seems to have been specially designed for a bike ride. You will find peace, space, old towns and views over the water. This route takes you through Enkhuizen and surroundings.

Lighthouse de Ven The route starts just below Medemblik. In the National Saet en Cruytmuseum you can learn everything about the cultivation and trade of seeds. From the cycle path you have a beautiful view over the IJsselmeer. You will pass one of the oldest and most beautiful lighthouses in the Netherlands: De Ven. This white square brick building dates from 1700 and has a light height of 17 meters. It is the only one left of three lighthouses that had to guide ships safely through the former Zuiderzee.

Enkhuizen In Enkhuizen you can easily sniff the rich maritime history of this beautiful town. You will see the Drommedaris, the seventeenth-century city gate. In Broekerhaven you will see a monumental ferry. Cycling over the leafy De Buurt you will see old houses and farmhouses, and you will also have beautiful views of the vast polder. What a beautiful region!
