Walking through woods and heathland near Harderwijk

Just outside Harderwijk it is wonderful to walk through the Veluwe. First you walk into the Harderwijkse Bos. Scots pines mainly grow here, although more space has been made for oak, birch and beech in recent years. A nice place to leave the everyday routine behind. The silence here is sometimes broken by a deer galloping away or a woodpecker drumming on a tree trunk. The adjacent Beekhuizerzand is a gently sloping shifting sand area of about 200 hectares. It is a bit harder to walk, but you get a unique experience in return. Especially on sunny days, the dried-up, almost gold-colored sand landscape seems to be on another planet.
