Description

Get out and discover stage 10 of the beautiful long-distance walk the Noord-Hollandpad. This tour takes you along the straight roads, ditches, canals and villages on the water of the Schermer reclaimed land.

Through the polders
The starting point of this route is at the church in Schermerhorn. This church was built here in 1636. From here you walk through the polders to the village of Driehuizen, but first take a look at the smallest house in Schermerhorn. This is the last historic gardener's house on Schermereiland that has been preserved. You can also enjoy the typical Dutch open landscape of the Eilandspolder along the way. This low-peaty area full of water is located between the Beemster and Schermer polders. The landscape was created by human hands.

Polder mill K
In the Schermer polder, no fewer than eleven centuries-old mills drain the landscape. During your tour you will pass one of these mills: Poldermolen K. This mill was built in 1635 to drain the former section K of the Schermer. Have you felt like taking a rest in the meantime? Then take a trip to Zuidschermer and enjoy a snack and a drink at't Torenerf. Then you will have enough for the last part of the route.

Alternative route
During the breeding season (from March 15 to June 15), part of this route is closed to hikers. You can then follow the paved cycle path that runs from Schermerhorn to Grootschermer and further towards Noordeinde. Your trip will then be slightly different than described above.
