Description
The nice old Sterksel is beautifully situated in greenery. Near the village you will discover the Monastery of Providentia with its special history.
Monastery
In the new Kloostervelden residential area, just outside the beautiful Sterksel, you will find the Monastery of Providentia. Here the brothers have cared for men with epilepsy for years. In 1990 the last brother closed the monastery door behind him. The Broeders are back again, in the form of lunch restaurant De Broeders, where everyone is welcome. Epilepsy care has always remained here - now the residents of Kempenhaeghe work in the catering industry.
WWII
After a beautiful walk through the Kempen forests and the picturesque Sterksel, you return to your starting point. The monastery played a special role in and just after the Second World War. It was evacuated by the Germans and converted into a school for the Hitler Youth. Because it was close to the front, it was then used by the British as a hospital from October to December 1944. This way you learn something!
