Description
This route takes you through the Noorderpark, the area between Utrecht and the Loosdrecht Lakes. This area is bordered on both sides by the Vecht River and the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The starting point of your tour is on the riverbank of the Vecht, at Slot Zuylen. This is one of the oldest castles on the Vecht with a long history. After a cup of coffee at the Carlton President Hotel, you cycle past numerous country houses along the Vecht, such as Buitenplaats Doornburgh and Landgoed Gansenhof. In the province of Utrecht, there are no fewer than 285 country estates to be found, of all shapes and sizes. You will also pass Fort Tienhoven. This fort was built around 1850. Nowadays, the fort is no longer in use, and nature has been given free rein.
