Take a nice bike ride through West Brabant and discover the monumental lock complex Benedensas.
Lower shaft
First you cycle to the lock Benedensas near the church village of De Heen. The lock complex dates from the nineteenth century and has been completely renovated. It was constructed to protect the land behind against high water from the Krammer Volkerak.
Fort Henry
For years, the Vliet was of great importance for commercial shipping, a lot of people passed here. You can still see that in the historic buildings: there was a small hamlet here with all kinds of skippers' facilities, such as a shop and the skippers' house. In the 1960s, the Benedensas was placed on the list of national monuments, just after the Lely pumping station. You cycle back via Nieuw-Vossemeer and Fort Henricus.
