Hiking route: 759962

The starting point of this route is Boerderij De Spijken – B&B – Mini Camping – Kaarsenmakerij. From here you will discover the Baanbrekerpad, a 10-kilometre long clog path through the beautiful rural area of Ammerzoden and Well. You will get to know the river landscape in all its facets. This area has gone through a lot due to flooding and high groundwater. The wheels in the Wellsche Waard are a reminder of the countless dike breaches. The De Baanbreker pumping station in Wellseind, just off the route, was named after the path in 1950. This architectural gem played an important role in the drainage of agricultural land. Walk on to the impressive Ammersoyen Castle, the best preserved moated castle in the Netherlands. You will also walk past the Groenhoven estate, built by the then mayor of Kerkwijk in 1842, the year of his marriage.
