Around the Tjeukemeer

The Tjeukemeer (Frisian and officially: Tsjûkemar) is the largest inland water in the Dutch province of Friesland. It is located in the southwest corner of the municipality of De Friese Meren, on the border of the former municipalities of Lemsterland and Skarsterlân.
The westernmost part of the lake is intersected by the A6 motorway. On the west side are also De Wiel and the Follegasloot, the latter forming the connection with the Prinses Margriet Canal. On the north side are the Scharsterrijn and the Zandwater, and on the east side the Broeresloot. The surface of the lake is approximately 22 km².
