There is still so much to discover! How about the Schadijk forests with their special history? The landscape here has changed considerably over time. With this route you will also discover the Kabroeksebeek.
Kabroeksebeek
You arrive at the Kabroeksebeek, which originates on the eastern edge of the Mariapeel. This stream flows for about 10.5 kilometers through the villages of America, Meterik and Horst. The Kabroeksebeek has an ecological function, but also ensures the drainage of agricultural and urban water.
Shady forests
Then you walk through an extension of the Schadijk forests, a special area. The heathlands used to be sod and used for grazing sheep. Due to the bare spots that were created, the wind got a hold on the underlying sand, the drifting sand created a hilly forest area. At the end of the 19th century, these sand drifts were again prevented by the planting of pine trees.
