Description
The Deurnsche Peel and Mariapeel in the west form a nice contrast with the forests in the east of this route. Variety is key!
Shady forests
With this cycle route you will quickly pass the monument'Traces that remained\\\' in America. This is reminiscent of the raids of 1944 when more than 3,000 boys and men were deported to Germany. 43 people were taken from America, but fortunately they all returned home. You continue cycling through the hilly Schadijkse forests. Sheep used to graze on the heathlands, and the resulting bare spots caused the sand to drift.
Ammunition house Griendtsveen
Further on you will discover another special monument, Munitiehuisje Griendtsveen. It owes its name to the roof, which used to be loose so that in the event of an explosion the roof would fly off and the rest of the building would be spared. It is unknown whether there was actually any ammunition in this ammunition house in Griendtsveen.
