Description
The deep stream valleys in the Leudal nature reserve provide varied vegetation that is home to numerous animals. In Baexem you will also discover beautiful historic buildings.
Mill Aurora
With this route you will discover the forests of the Leudal. This is the habitat of various animal species such as martens, badgers, deer and foxes, which benefit from the landscape variation around the deep stream valleys. In Baexem itself you can see Mill Aurora, a semi-closed post mill from 1845. The wood of the base is said to come from the old gallows of Haelen. You can learn more about the mill in the modern mill house.
Baexem Castle
And there is another special historic building in this picturesque village: Baexem Castle. This castle was built in the seventeenth century on the thirteenth-century family home of the van Baexen family. On the site of the former one you will now find a unique botanical garden that you can wander through.
