National Park
During this bike tour you will discover Weerribben-Wieden National Park. The landscape here looks unspoilt, but nothing could be further from the truth. The Weerribben sub-area was created by peat extraction from the Middle Ages until shortly after the Second World War. The cut peat was left to dry on narrow strips of land intended for this purpose. These strips were called 'ribs' and the larger areas of open water were called weeds. Enjoy the peace and quiet during your bike ride - you only hear birdsong.

Black tern
Especially in the spring, the many birds can make themselves heard, a delight! You will see purple herons, the black tern and sedge warbler. Reeds and cattails often grow at the edges of the water of the Weerribben. Before and after your walk you can go to Restaurant Ant Waeter. As the name of the restaurant suggests, you can enjoy a delicious meal or drink along the water. How about homemade apple pie?
