The Veluwe forests sometimes seem endless, especially around Uddel and Elspeet. You can drive here for hours, straight through the green. But there are also beautiful historical places to discover here!
Wind flour mill Wenum
Just outside Wenum you cycle past the Windkorenmolen van Wenum, a thatched ground sailor. This mill is the third one on this site: both its predecessors burned down. This mill dates from 1840 and has been moved from Baambrugge. The current owners are heirs of F. Vorderman, who bought the polder mill in 1913.
You cycle straight through the woods, past Uddel and Elspeet. On the outskirts of Vaassen you cycle behind the centuries-old Castle De Cannenburgh, well worth a visit. This castle was built on the remains of an earlier, probably fourteenth-century castle. In 1543, the ruin at that time fell into the hands of the famous warlord Maarten van Rossum. He ordered the rebuilding of the castle, but died before its completion.
