The Veluwe forests sometimes seem endless, especially around Uddel and Elspeet. You can drive here for hours, straight through the greenery. But there are also beautiful historical places to discover here!
Windmill Wenum
Just outside Wenum you cycle past the Wenum Windmill, a thatched ground sailor. This mill is the third on this site: both its predecessors burned down. This mill dates from 1840 and was moved from Baambrugge. The current owners are heirs of F. Vorderman, who bought the polder mill in 1913.
Cannenburgh
You cycle straight through the woods, past Uddel and Elspeet. On the edge of Vaassen you cycle behind the centuries-old Cannenburgh Castle, which is worth a visit. This castle was built on the remains of an earlier, probably fourteenth-century castle. In 1543, the then ruins fell into the hands of the well-known warlord Maarten van Rossum. He ordered the castle to be rebuilt, but died before its completion.
