Description

Krommenie and the surroundings of this village have many monumental buildings, but you have to know where to look for them. This route takes you past various buildings full of history and through the quiet peat meadow areas in this area.

Buildings full of history
The Krommenie-Assendelft train station is the starting point of this route. From here you can walk right through the center of Krommenie. You can admire, among other things, the beautiful residential house'Ceres\\\', the Dutch Reformed Church Krommenie and the former orphanage'Huize Barkeloo\\\'. A little further on in Krommeniedijk you will find the former Tolhuis Krommeniedijk. From 1830, tolls were levied here for more than a hundred years. The toll was lifted in 1933. There used to be a café in this building. From here you walk back to Krommenie along the Agathepark. This park was built between 1929 and 1931 as a form of job creation during the crisis.

Back to Krommenie
A little further you will find't Blauwe End. This stately home used to be the home of a roller ship owner and later the director of Linoleum factories for which this region is known. You will also pass the Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter. You end your tour at the train station in Krommenie.

The typical Zaanse architectural style
On this route you will find various buildings that are built in the typical Zaanse architectural style. You can recognize this style by the use of green painted wood and the sometimes exuberant carving. These houses were mainly built by wealthy merchants. Later, these types of houses gave way to brick houses.
