Discover Het Oudland near Steenbergen

It is wonderful to cycle through Het Oudland, a small-scale agricultural area with beautiful nature near Steenbergen. A trip full of discoveries, from a beautiful old village to the center of Roosendaal.

The Old Country
This route starts on the edge of Steenbergen. From here you cycle into Het Oudland with the Oudlandsch Laag, a nature reserve for amphibians, forest birds and butterflies in the Ligne stream valley. You will find poplar and oak forests and meadows. The area is located on the transition from higher sandy soil to lower clay soil, a valuable peat area with small-scale plots. In the low-lying southern part, called De Krabben, there are even a number of peat wells.

Picturesque church village
You cycle straight through the rural countryside via the picturesque church village of Moerstraten to Roosendaal. If you feel like it, you can go into town! You drive past Oud-Gastel; Nieuw Gastel no longer exists, it was lost due to floods in the 16th century. In the hamlet of Gastelsveer, a little further away, you can see beautiful farms along the dike.
