Description

What a wonderful tour through Het Gooi. Not surprising that Amsterdammers have been happy to move here for ages! It is beautifully green and you will find beautiful places such as Weesp, a historic fortified town.

Stately villas
You drive through the polder towards Muiderberg, where you have a beautiful view of the IJmeer. At the hamlet of Hakkelaarbrug you cross the Naardertrekvaart, an old barge connection between Amsterdam and the Gooi. Partly thanks to this connection, Het Gooi grew into a country estate. It is known for its stately villas. Around 1900 many artists and writers lived here, now they are people from the broadcasting world.

Fortified city of Weesp
Then you pass through the old fortified town of Weesp. Heritage is here for the taking. At the historic Ossenmarkt you can see the Torenfort from 1861. This is part of the New Dutch Waterline. Via the beautiful monumental Lange Vecht bridge you drive to the Hoogstraat: an atmospheric street along the Utrechtse Vecht. It is wonderful to cycle here along the water with all those monumental buildings. You cycle back to your starting point via the Vinkeveense lakes.
