North Limburg Castle Route: past Arcen and Baarlo

This route has the shape of a figure of eight, with the Clevers Grubbenvorst Ice Cream Parlor as the center. So you can try many flavors of ice cream today! The first loop goes north. After crossing the Maas, you cycle through the forests of the Schandelose Heide. In beautiful Arcen you will find Arcen Castle, better known for its beautiful gardens. On the other side of the Maas you drive into the North Limburg forests. You will pass through the Houthuizerheide and the Schuitwater. Via Kaldenbroek Castle, a sixteenth-century castle farm, and Huis De Steeg, a mansion from 1750, you drive to the castle village of Baarlo. Here you see De Berckt: an Italian-style castle that was built in the nineteenth century. You cycle back along the Maas - straight through Venlo!
