A beautiful walk across Schokland: a perfect route at any time of the year to get some fresh air and immediately discover this ancient former island.
Schokland
With this route you walk along Nagele and the Ketelmeer, but also along a large part of the former island of Schokland. Take a break here at Museum Schokland, where you can learn everything about the history of Schokland. The island was evacuated in 1859 by order of King Willem III.
Dutch skies
Since 1942, Schokland has been surrounded by the Noordoostpolder. You will also pass through Middelbuurt, a residential mound on the former island. Here you can see the Enserkerk, one of the oldest buildings in the Noordoostpolder. The church dates from 1834 and replaced a wooden predecessor from 1717. In the polder it is wonderfully quiet to walk. You will find beautiful views and characteristic high Dutch skies. Where once the sea rippled, crops now sway like grain.
