The South Dunes
Residential area'De Zuidduinen\\\' was mainly built around 1930. Here you again have a beautiful view of Noordwijk Binnen.
Wilhelminahofje
This almshouse was built in 1878 with 12 poor houses. These were later completely renovated into modern retirement homes. The large lime tree in the middle of the garden was planted on the occasion of the investiture of Queen Wilhelmina in 1898. The entire courtyard was named after her on that occasion. Jeroen's first wooden chapel is said to have stood on the site of the courtyard in the 9th century.
RK St. Jeroen's Church
This church was built between 1895-1926. At the top of the facade is the statue of St. Jeroen, complete with falcon and sword, which would indicate his noble descent.
Lindenplein
With the two village pumps on both sides (second half of the 18th century), it used to be a central market place in the village. In the beautiful garden, around the 17th century country house'De Lindenhof\\\' (house no. 1), the large red beech dominates. It was mainly the rectors of the large schools and boarding schools who lived there and also taught. In the 19th century it became a notary's residence. Notary daughter Henriëtte van de Schalk grew up here, who became widely known as a writer and political activist after her marriage to Ronald Holst. A bust has been placed in her honor at the end of Lindenplein.
Town Hall, Grote or St. Jeroenskerk and Hof van Holland
This Medieval Gothic church was erected in honor of the martyr St. Jeroen. Hof van Holland is located at no. 79, the oldest hotel restaurant in Noordwijk. The name refers to an even earlier use of the property. A few centuries ago, almost the entire village, including the surrounding land, was owned by one man: the craftsman of Noordwijk. In his service, the bailiff maintained law and order in the village. This bailiff administered justice in the Court of Holland as a kind of private judge. After the arrival of the French in 1795, this form of private jurisdiction was abolished. The administration of justice was moved to the independent subdistrict court, a few houses away.
The oldest house in Noordwijk
This is reflected in some beautiful facades. If you take the trouble to walk back about 20 meters you will see the oldest house in Noordwijk at number 19. It has been there for more than five and a half centuries. In the long time of its existence, the building has had many functions. For example, it used to be a guard house of the craftsman, a farm, an inn, a wheel workshop and, until the restoration, a garage. After that it became the current home.
