On the eastern Veluwe you will discover beautiful historical places such as a sixteenth-century castle and an even older water mill. You can also take a nice trip across the Tongerense Heide.
Cannenburgh
The route starts at Uylkens Hof. On the edge of Vaassen you cycle past the centuries-old De Cannenburgh Castle. This castle was built on the remains of an earlier, probably fourteenth-century castle. In 1543, the then ruins fell into the hands of the well-known warlord Maarten van Rossum. He ordered the castle to be rebuilt, but died before its completion. A little further on is the Cannenburger Molen, a fourteenth-century water mill on the Hartense Molenbeek.
Tongeren Heath
From here you can drive straight into the vast forests of the Veluwe. Nothing can beat riding along the cycle path between deciduous and coniferous trees. Gortel is located in the middle of the forest, a charming hamlet that enjoys a protected village view because of its well-preserved old farms. In the high area of the Tongerense Heide you will see forests, heaths and fens. You cycle back to Uylkens Hof via Emst. Stay here for a night and hold on to that holiday feeling for a while!
