Swinging over the Brabantse Wal

The Brabantse Wal is beautiful, especially on the western steep edge. This walk also takes you through the flat polder, so that you can see the high moraine beautifully outlined in the landscape.

You walk in the direction of the Belgian border, but turn off just before it, in the hamlet of Ruimteluis. It consists of little more than a handful of houses. Behind you you see the Brabantse Wal beautifully outlined, the steep edge seems even higher because of the trees that grow there. An almost un-Dutch view!

War memorial Ossendrecht
You walk between the meadows to Ossendrecht, with the Brabantse Wal always on your right. This moraine was created during the last Ice Age, 15 to 10,000 years ago. The edge of the sand plateau extends from the Belgian border to Steenbergen and reaches a height of up to 20 meters. In Ossendrecht you will pass a war monument that represents the end of the war: two soldiers settle the battle, while a woman takes care of a wounded warrior.
