Pearls in marl, a 'stone-good' cycling route

This fascinating cycle tour takes you straight through the marl landscape. Along the way you will admire the open landscapes and impressive marl buildings. You start at the Vroenhoven Bridge. Outside the view is breathtaking, inside 2 exhibitions will keep you captivated. You will interactively experience how WWII started here for Belgium and discover the story of the waterways and canals. A little later you drive into beautiful Kanne with its marina and marl caves: a subterranean labyrinth of 300 km with an exhibition of blockwork materials, murals and an authentic mushroom farm. The next highlight is the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre: a faithful sandstone copy of the original chapel in Jerusalem. Right next to it is a former canons house. In the distance, Château Neercanne shows off Dutch territory. The graceful bridge over the Albert Canal is Riemst's favorite cycling spot. The final highlight is the Irish Cross that commemorates the bloody Battle of Lafelt from 1747 between the French and the Austrians.
