Cross-border nature reserve Kempen-Broek: forests and Smeetshof

Forests, the remains of a vast border swamp, nice wooden paths: you can't beat this beautifully varied route!

Smeetshof
With this route you explore the cross-border nature reserve Kempen-Broek, which is partly in the Netherlands and partly in Belgium. All kinds of smaller areas are part of this, which provides enormous variation. You can see this clearly when you walk from the Laurabossen to Smeetshof. This swamp area is one of the last parts that remain of the extensive border swamp that used to be here. A beautiful primeval area, just across the border in Belgium!

Laurabossen
The swamp was reclaimed on a large scale at the end of the last century. Now the swamp is being restored to its original state. The walking paths in Smeetshof fit in nicely with the surroundings, so in addition to sand paths you will also find wooden paths: wooden paths in the swamp. You walk back through the Laurabossen. Here you mainly see conifers, but also birches and oaks.
