Walking tour through Ouderkerk aan de Amstel

In the historic Ouderkerk aan de Amstel there is little sign of urban bustle. You will find beautiful old buildings and a nice historical museum.

Ouderkerkerplas
Just outside Ouderkerk aan de Amstel is the recreation area Ouderkerkerplas, where you will find various hiking trails. In the summer you often see divers, surfers, canoeists and small sailing boats. In the winter you can spot many water birds that hibernate near the water, so you will find thousands of widgeons. NB: the pond and the paths on the south and east sides are closed to visitors from October 15 to April 15 to give the birds a rest.

Deacon houses
At the end of the route you will pass the Historical Museum Ouder-Amstel, a nice, small museum in a number of Diaconie houses. Here you will learn all about the history of the Ouder-Amstel area, nice to drop in before you discover this region! Ouderkerk aan de Amstel was already a popular place for excursions by the Amsterdam elite in the seventeenth century. It is not for nothing that they built their summer villas there.
