Bree - Flanders - Belgium
Cycling route 752617
Provided by: Tourist Info
This route takes you through the rich and varied nature around the Belgian Bree. A tour full of forests, stream valleys and Bocholt, a beautiful old town.
The route starts at the edge of Tongerlo. In this beautiful old village you will pass St. Peter's Church, which originally dates from the fifteenth century. Ahead you drive into the farmlands. You will pass through the Hasselterbroek, a nature reserve where you will find a mix of meadows, small forests and heather fields. On the Dutch side of the border you drive through the outskirts of Stramproy with its forests and meadows.
Back in Belgium you drive through the Abeek valley. A picturesque landscape of vast grasslands and old farms where you can make kilometers peacefully. In Bocholt you can admire, among other things, the Saint Laurentius church from 1476. The marlstone tower was moved almost ten meters per rails in 1910 to enlarge the church. The inhabitants of Bocholten owe their nickname Torenkruiers to this. You can find more information about this region at Stad Bree.
