Description
This route takes you through the rich and varied nature around Bree in Belgium. A trip full of forests, stream valleys and Bocholt, a beautiful old town.
Hasselt pants
The route starts on the edge of Tongerlo. In this beautiful old village you pass St. Peter's Church, which originally dates from the fifteenth century. Further on you drive into the fields. You pass through the Hasselterbroek, a nature reserve where you will find a mix of meadows, small forests and heaths. On the Dutch side of the border you drive through the outskirts of Stramproy with its forests and meadows.
Tower porters
Back in Belgium you drive through the Abeek valley. A picturesque landscape of vast grasslands and old farms where you can make wonderfully quiet kilometers. In Bocholt you can admire, among other things, the Sint-Laurentiuskerk from 1476. The marl stone tower was moved almost ten meters by rail in 1910 in order to enlarge the church. The inhabitants of Bocholt owe their nickname Torenkruiers to it. You can go to Stad Bree for more information about this region.
