Description
This route takes you through Heist-op-den-Berg, a charming town in the Antwerp Kempen. In the rural countryside you can enjoy the peace and quiet and the natural landscape.
Heistse Berg
Soon after boarding you cycle up the Heistse Berg: a 48 meter high hill that forms the heart of Heist-op-den-Berg. You will see a number of sights here, such as the old courthouse and town hall, the fourteenth-century St. Lambertus Church and the parsonage from 1769. Further on you will enter the Hoogbergbos. You can climb the water tower on Sunday afternoon for a view that takes you as far as Brussels and Antwerp on a clear day.
Herenboss
In the countryside you cycle through a series of agricultural lands and forests. It is wonderfully peaceful to travel for miles here. You regularly see old chapels and Kempen farms. Between junctions 67 and 94 you ride a short distance on the Kempen-Hageland route, a cycle path that was built over a former railway line.
