Description
The Kalmthoutse Heide is a wonderful area. On this expansive plain, you can fully enjoy the tranquility and beautiful views. There are even more small nature reserves in the surrounding area that are worth exploring.
Noordheuvel Domain
This route starts near the Belgian-Dutch border. This tour takes you to Antwerp's Noordertuin, a tourist area in the natural north of the Antwerp Kempen region. You'll soon pass through the Belgian nature reserve Domein Noordheuvel, where you'll cycle among deciduous trees, most of which are over 120 years old! You'll cycle through rural areas to Gooreind, Brasschaat, and Putte, dipping in and out of the woods.
Fens
Antwerp's Noordertuin includes the Kalmthoutse Heide, which you'll cycle through. This section of the route clearly shows why it's called the Kalmthoutse Heide: it's practically all heathland. Yet, there's also plenty of woodland here – without human intervention, the heathland would grow completely over. You'll also see some tranquil fens. Stop off to admire the beauty of these gems!
