Borgloon - Flanders - Belgium
Cycling route 752596
Provided by: Tourist Info
Special: a cycle route along various works of art in the open space of Borgloon. The artworks allow you to look at the environment differently and show the stories that are not always immediately visible.
You start at Tourism Borgloon in the beautiful City Hall on the historic Markt, where you will be informed about cycling routes and bicycle rental. Borgloon is a pleasant town in the sloping Haspengouw. It was once a fortified city from which the Counts of Loon ruled their county. At its peak it was the same size as the current province of Limburg! The name Borgloon is composed of 'Borg' and 'Loon' which means 'castle in the middle of a wooded hill'.
Then you soon cycle to the old steam syrup factory, where nowadays syrup is again made in the traditional way. At the beginning of the last century, Borgloon was the cradle of syrup production. Further on you will discover the see-through church Reading between the Lines, which consists of 100 layers of steel plate stacked on top of each other in the shape of a Loons church. Depending on your position, the church completely or partially dissolves in the environment. Looking from the inside out you have a very special view of the fruit landscape!
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
