Walking around the Hazenputten and Moerkuilen

This walking route starts at the Vresselse Hut, a nature gate where you can enjoy a cup of coffee. From here you walk straight into the Vressels Bos, a hidden pearl of fragrant Scots pine, oak and beech. This 250 hectare forest was planted in the 1920s on a drifting sand ridge. In the middle of the forest you pass the Hazenputten. This old fen is a lovely spot for a picnic. Further on you walk past the Moerkuilen, a wonderfully quiet peat pond that was created by peat extraction. De Moerkuilen is surrounded by a swamp forest, so make sure you wear waterproof shoes! A little later you walk through the Dommeldal: an old small-scale landscape of meadows, fields, hedges and beautiful regional farms. Here you imagine yourself back in old Brabant.
