Round Wervershoof and IJsselmeer

The West Frisian lowland is an ideal hiking area. You can enjoy a mix of moist meadows, ditches, colorful bulb fields and high skies. And of course the view over the IJsselmeer!

Dolmens
After a cup of coffee at Hotel Café Restaurant de Vooroever, you head into West Friesland. Here you can enjoy a wide landscape, old (ribbon) villages and a rich cultural history. In Onderdijk you can see the Nesboskade, which is part of the Vooroever nature reserve. On the beach you can see old saltwater shells from the Zuiderzee period. Large flat glacier stones were placed in the Zeedijk after the shipworm started to eat through the wood of the old wierdijk. They come from Drenthe dolmens!

IJsselmeer
West Friesland belonged to Frisian territory for a long time in the Middle Ages, as the inhabitants did not want to submit to the counts of Holland. You can see the Frisian influence in the many authentic farmhouses. There are also many bulb fields here that bloom profusely in spring, Wervershoof has many bulb growers. Along the IJsselmeer you can enjoy views over the water and get a breath of fresh air. You walk back to your starting point via windmill De Hoop.
