The steam train of Simpelveld

This walk takes you through the area around Simpelveld, known for the Miljoenenlijn. Nowadays you can take beautiful rides with the steam train - and nice walks! Simpelveld is best known as a station of the Zuid-Limburgse Stoomtram (later Stoomtrein) Company. Five inspired men founded the company on March 24, 1988, when the then minister Neelie Smit-Kroes had decided to close the Kerkrade-Simpelveld railway line. The 'Miljoenenlijntje' had to be preserved. Outside Simpelveld you can enjoy a sloping mosaic of forests, fields and meadows. Just before the terminus you walk past the Oude Molen, from 1774. Even more heritage!
