A sea dike in Hooge Zwaluwe? Yes, indeed! That this is not as crazy as it sounds, you will discover with this nice walking route. Hooge Zwaluwe also turns out to be a beautiful old town!
St. Elizabeth's Flood
In Made you will pass the Hoop Doet Leven, a corn mill from 1867. Then you will walk along a creek remnant that was created by the St. Elisabeth's flood of 1421: the natural Zwaluwse Haven, in Hooge Zwaluwe. It is therefore not surprising that this path is called'Zeedijk\\\'! The soil here near the Amer consists mainly of sea clay.
High Swallow
Hooge Zwaluwe is a beautiful old town. You quickly leave the village again, but it is worth walking a little further to the protestant church that you can easily see. It was designed by Jacob van Campen who also designed the Mauritshuis and Huis ten Bosch in The Hague. The ground plan forms a cross with equal arms. An open wooden tower or'bellefroy\\\' crowns the building, a stone spiral staircase leads to it.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
