Walking route Sallandse Heuvelrug and Outdoor Centre

Enjoy the beautiful views over the Sallandse Heuvelrug! This route also takes in Nijverdal and the Buitencentrum, so there are plenty of opportunities to take a break along the way.

Gagelmansveentje
After a cup of coffee at Restaurant De Sallandse Berg you set off. Your tour today is a junction route, handy: getting lost is a thing of the past. You first walk along and through Nijverdal, the only place in the Netherlands for which gold has ever been mined. An official concession has even been issued for it! You also discover the Gagelmansveentje in the Duivecate estate in Nijverdal, used for many years as an ice rink.

Sallandse Heuvelrug
The walk also takes you past Buitencentrum Sallandse Heuvelrug, a visitors' centre where you can learn everything about this special area. The views over the beautiful rolling landscape are almost un-Dutch. This nature reserve is home to one of the two remaining groups of black grouse in the Netherlands. According to legend, the Sallandse hills were created by a giant who carried a bag of sand with him. There was supposed to have been a hole in the bag, through which the sand leaked!
