Description

Near Molenhoek you will come across special nature reserves where a rare animal species can be found: the smooth snake. On to Mulderskop and the Heumense Schans on the Mookerheide!

Authentic heather
This route is in the shape of a figure eight and the intersection is close to your starting point, so you can also have lunch here later. First you walk to Mulderskop, within the forestry Groesbeek the only remnant of the heath that used to be here. You will find rare species such as the sand lizard, smooth snake and slow worm.

Rare species
Heumensoord, Mulderskop, Heumense Schans and the Mookerheide are increasingly connected. You can walk straight through nature to the Heumense Schans, a lateral moraine named after the sconce that was built here in the 17th century. On the open moors on and around the moraine, cold-blooded animals can warm up nicely in the sun. Enough possibilities to try to spot the smooth snake again!
