Around Grootschermer you drive through ancient polders. You can fully enjoy the natural beauty here, but certainly also the atmospheric old villages!
Island Polder
The route starts at Café-Restaurant het Genot van Grootschermer. Further on you will pass Museum and Sculpture Garden Nic Jonk, a nice stop. From the dike you can see the Eilandspolder on your right, a marshy peat area with long plots of grassland and reed-lined ditches. Even the farmers sometimes have to use their barges to get to the cows. What a wonderfully quiet area! You pass the Bovenmolen G, a polder mill from 1633.
World Heritage List
In Avenhorn you pass the beautiful village church with its green tower from 1642. Then you make a tour along the edges of the Beemsterpolder. You can still see the age-old rectangular allotment pattern here. The Beemster Dryworks is therefore on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are also two forts from the Defense Line of Amsterdam on your route. You can see many monumental buildings in De Rijp, Graft and Noordeinde. What a beautiful region!
