Around Grootschermer you drive through centuries-old polders. You can fully enjoy the natural beauty here, but certainly also the charming old villages!
Eilandspolder
The route starts at Café-Restaurant het Genot van Grootschermer. Further on you will pass the Nic Jonk Museum and Sculpture Garden, a nice stop. From the dike you can see the Eilandspolder on the right, a swampy peat area with long plots of grassland and reed-lined ditches. Even the farmers sometimes have to get on their barges to get to the cows. What a wonderfully quiet area! You pass the Bovenmolen G, a polder mill from 1633.
World Heritage List
In Avenhorn you pass the beautiful village church with its green tower from 1642. Then you take a tour along the edges of the Beemsterpolder. You can still see the age-old rectangular allotment pattern here. The Beemster Droogmakerij is therefore on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are also two forts from the Defense Line of Amsterdam on your route. In De Rijp, Graft and Noordeinde you will see many monumental buildings. What a beautiful region!
