Mill"De Volharding\\\".
In the center of Best we pass the standard mill "De Volharding" which was restored in 2013.

Robert Cole & Joe Mann 1944
There was fierce fighting in the woods between Son and Best on the Sonseweg during the Second World War during the liberation of September 18 and 19, 1944. The German troops advanced from Boxtel and Best and tried, among other things, to recapture the drop and landing areas near Son. Many soldiers died in this battle, including the courageous Lieutenant Colonel Robert Cole and Private Joe Mann. After the fighting, both men were awarded the highest American military decoration: the Medal of Honor.
You can hear the story at the listening point immediately after KNP 17.

Aquabest
We continue the way to the Aquabest recreation and meeting place. Aquabest is a hospitable recreational park for young and old around a beautiful, spacious lake located on the A2 near Best (Eindhoven).
The lake was created as a result of sand extraction for the construction of the surrounding motorways.
We also drive through one of the Eindhoven neighborhoods" Achtse Barrier".

Eighth Barrier
The name Achtse Barrier refers to the toll house on the Boschdijk: the Achtse Barrier (1900). In addition to the Achtse Barrier, there was another toll house further south on the Boschdijk, the (Woenselse) Barrier. When the Boschdijk was widened, the toll house was demolished (1956). The street names are taken from France, the French Baan runs centrally through the neighborhoods, and the rest of the streets have names of French villages. The neighborhoods of the Achtse Barrier are often described as a maze because of their unstructured course. AFTh. van der Heijden, born in the Eindhoven neighborhood of Tivoli, which still belonged to Geldrop at the time of his birth, wrote the following about it in his novel As Destiny in 1994: "a new residential area in a stylized higgledy-piggledy style designed according to the street plan of a French country village, complete with farmhouse roofs of uneven height\\\".
We arrive in Vredeoord via the Driehoeksbos.

Peaceoord

Vredeoord is a neighborhood in Woensel-Zuid in Eindhoven and is located on the north side of the Center. The neighborhood is located in the Erp district, which consists of six neighborhoods. The name of the neighborhood refers to the Vredeoord estate. In 1839, the Eindhoven merchant Hoefnagels bought a large piece of land in the large heathland area between Woensel and Best on which he built the Vredeoord estate, which has since been demolished. Today, GGzE De Grote Beek is located in the area.
We then cycle towards Eindhoven Centrum Fellenoord under the railway to the Eindhoven entertainment and shopping center.

Eindhoven
In addition to the city of Eindhoven of the same name, the municipality of Eindhoven also includes the village of Acht and the Meerhoven expansion location. Eindhoven is the fifth largest municipality in the Netherlands by population. The municipality has 227,100 inhabitants (April 30, 2017, source: CBS) on a territory of 88.84 km². The municipality of Eindhoven is part of the Eindhoven Metropolitan Region (MRE) and the BrabantStad urban network. The Eindhoven agglomeration (not to be confused with the metropolitan region), consisting of the municipalities of Eindhoven, Veldhoven, Best, Nuenen and Geldrop-Mierlo, has almost 420,000 inhabitants on an area of approximately 540 km². About 750,000 people live in the MRE. On November 24, 2015, the municipality welcomed its 225,000th resident. The city is still growing: the forecast is that the number of inhabitants of the municipality will rise to 231,000 by 2020.
After the Willemstraat, on the St Antioniusstraat in Eindhoven we pass the \\\"Steentjes Kerk\\\".

The Steentjes Church is special because of the many stones from which this church is built and the architectural style of Roman Basilicas.

Philipsdorp
Philipsdorp is a neighborhood in the'Strijp within the ring\\\' district of the Strijp district in Eindhoven that was built after 1910 to meet the need for living space for employees of the rapidly growing Philips light bulb factory. The idea of a factory village included a vision of the living conditions of the modern factory worker, such as a healthy home, a vegetable garden and work within a short distance. All facilities for the workers, such as company shops, a bread factory, a bathhouse and schools, as well as sports fields and a music club, were located within the village. A sense of solidarity and loyalty to the company where one was allowed to work was cultivated. The factory village had to form a complete community.
After Philipsdorp we cycle north-west towards Drentsdorp.

Drentsdorp
Drents Dorp is also a neighborhood in the Strijp district of Eindhoven and belongs to the Halve Maan district. Drents Dorp was built in the 1920s. It was a neighborhood where Philips housed the workers who came from Drenthe. In addition to many references to trees (Eikenstraat, Wilgenstraat), the district also contains many street names from Gelderland. At that time, the municipality wanted to name the new neighborhoods after municipalities in the Netherlands. Mostly Drenthe residents lived in the"Gelderse district\\\", so the name of the district became Drents Dorp. A seemingly strange street name in the district is Canadastraat, which is named after the Canadian poplar, which was widely used in the clog industry in North Brabant at the time and was locally called Kanidas. There are approximately 1,000, mainly pre-war, cheap and small homes. The district consists of three parts: North, South and East. Strijp-R is still under redevelopment but is in principle also part of Drents Dorp. (See also the buildings of Piet-Hein Eek here.)

Herdgang
The Herdgang is the PSV training complex and an official neighborhood in Eindhoven.
The complex consists of seven football fields and various training facilities, including a fitness center. It is located on the north side of Eindhoven, near the De Wielewaal estate, on the Oirschotsedijk. It is a wooded and quiet area. PSV conducts all its training at De Herdgang. The youth and amateur teams also train and play at this complex. The training and competitions that take place at the Herdgang are usually freely accessible.
The Herdgang dates from 1952 and was renovated in 2002. The complex now houses the offices for scouts, the youth academy and the secretariat. The amateur and youth canteen was renovated in 2005 and there are also facilities for wheelchair users.

After the Herdgang we cycle via the Lievendaal district and the De Hurk industrial estate back to Hotel Campanile
