On both sides of the Limburg Maas are some beautiful old villages like pearls on a chain. With this route you will discover their unique heritage. And you enjoy the natural beauty in between.
The route starts at De Spaenjerd. Grab a terrace here before you drive to beautiful Kessenich. You can see here, among other things, Den Berg: a motte-and-bailey castle with a ruin of the twelfth-century keep. From the top you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. Further on, you cross the border and drive through Thorn, the famously picturesque White Town. You can still see the fortress past in Wessem and Stevensweert. What beautiful towns!
On the outskirts of Ohé you will pass the sixteenth-century Hasselholt castle. This building has a striking Maasland Renaissance facade from 1651. The centuries-old Maaseik is the cultural heart of the Maasland. The city center looks like a historic open-air museum, you will see beautiful old buildings with facades in Maasland renaissance and baroque style, rococo and neoclassicism.
