Provided by: route.nl
This route takes you through the Bergherbos and the Emmericher Ward, in the rolling Dutch-German border area along the Rhine. With a few special places along the way, such as a real moated castle.
Toll room
You first drive along the 80 meter high Eltenerberg to Elten. This town was assigned to the Netherlands after World War II, a measure that was reversed in 1963. In Tolkamer you pass the former customs office, a monument from 1906. You will also pass the Tolhuys Coornmolen from 1888. Cycling on the dike you will have beautiful views over the Rhine. And do you see that the Rhine flows into the Netherlands at Spijk, so not at Lobith!
Montferland
In the cozy Hanseatic city of Emmerich am Rhein you can see the Sint Aldegundiskerk and Sint-Martinikerk. Also take a look at the longest suspension bridge (1228 meters) in Germany. Back in the Netherlands you will pass one of the most beautiful places here in Montferland: Huis Bergh, a moated castle from the thirteenth century. You can admire a beautiful museum collection.
