Tour of Vrachelse Heide

The Vrachelse Heide is a beautiful nature reserve with lots of coniferous forest, surrounded by beautiful old farms. Explore this green gem with this beautiful walking route, which also leads you past special discoveries such as a hermit tree and an esdorp.

Neighborhood Vrachelen
This walking route starts at Camping Vrachelen, where you can set off well-rested after an overnight stay. The campsite is named after the hamlet of Vrachelen. Here, along the road, stands the Holy Oak: a striking summer oak that was planted around 1750. According to tradition, a hermit lived in the hollowed-out tree trunk. A little later, you will pass through Den Hout, an atypical esdorp. Here, you will also find the De Hoop corn mill, which was badly damaged during the Second World War but is now grinding again.

Vrachelse Heide
Through the rural countryside you walk to the Markkanaal. If you cross over you walk further to the Vrachelse Heide. Although the name suggests otherwise, this nature reserve consists mainly of coniferous forest. It is wonderfully quiet walking here, a great opportunity to recharge your batteries. At the edge of the forests you pass some characteristic Kempen long-façade farms with Flemish barns. You also walk a bit along the Houtse Meer, a popular recreation area with beach.
