Tour of Twente

A delightful cycling loop through beautiful Twente: wonderfully rural, with a few special spots along the way to dismount. The route starts at Garden Centre and Restaurant Borghuis, after which you set off. Between Almelo and Oldenzaal, you ride through a typical Twente hedgerow landscape full of tree-lined avenues, meadows bordered by wooded banks, and fields full of herbs. You also pass plenty of water, such as the Het Hulsbeek recreation area with its beautiful lakes. Further along, you make a special discovery. The Weerselo Abbey is a convent where, starting in the fourteenth century, unmarried noble ladies were provided with a good education. Be sure to dismount in Saasveld, or Soasel as they call it here: the stained glass of the beautiful Roman Catholic St. Plechelmus Church from 1926 is well worth a look!
