You can take a beautiful tour around Schoorl through the dunes and polders. You will find plenty of peace, natural beauty and cultural history here.
West Frisian Omringdijk
The route starts at Beach Pavilion Hargen. Enjoy a terrace here before you jump on your bike. You first drive through the dunes for a while, before driving along the Hondsbossche Zeewering. You can get a breath of fresh air here, after which you drive into the Pettemerduinen. How wonderfully quiet it is here! You cross the Noordhollandsch Kanaal via one of the five remaining raft bridges in the Netherlands. Then you cycle over the monumental West Frisian Omringdijk.
Nuwendoorn Castle
Just after junction 41 you come to the remains of the thirteenth-century Nuwendoorn Castle. The foundations were only rediscovered in 1948. You can climb a lookout tower here for beautiful views of the characteristic polder landscape. Further on you drive into the Schoorlse Duinen: the widest dune area in the Netherlands. You will find sloping paths that lead you through the vast forests and dunes. In between you will pass through the beautiful artists' village of Bergen.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
