Enjoy the dunes and polders near Schoorl

Around Schoorl, you can take a beautiful trip through the dunes and polders. You'll find plenty of peace, natural beauty, and cultural history here.

West Frisian Ring Dike
The route starts at Strandpaviljoen Hargen. Enjoy a drink on a terrace before hopping on your bike. You'll first cycle a bit through the dunes before riding along the Hondsbossche Seawall. Here you can get a breath of fresh air, after which you'll enter the Pettemerduinen dunes. It's wonderfully quiet here! You'll cross the North Holland Canal via one of the five remaining pontoon bridges in the Netherlands. After a break at De Wielen Recreation Park, you'll cycle along the historic West Frisian Circular Dike.

Nuwendoorn Castle
Just after junction 41, you'll come to the remains of the 13th-century Nuwendoorn Castle. Its foundations were only rediscovered in 1948. Here, you can climb a lookout tower for beautiful views of the characteristic polder landscape. Further on, you'll enter the Schoorlse Duinen: the widest dune area in the Netherlands. Here, you'll find gently rolling paths that lead you through the vast forests and dunes. Along the way, you'll pass through the beautiful artists' village of Bergen.
