Walking through the beautiful surroundings of Hargen

Around Hargen in North Holland you can take a beautiful walk. You walk through the Schoorlse Duinen and the old Harger- and Pettemerpolder.

Schoorl Dunes
The route starts at the foot of the Hondsbossche Zeewering. Walk up this centuries-old sea wall for a beautiful view of the area where you are going to walk. In the distance lies your first destination: the Schoorlse Duinen, one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. A century ago, there was still one large sandpit here. Now you walk along a rolling path through open drifting dunes and dense forests. In between, you can take a seat on a cozy terrace at Strandpaviljoen Hargen.

Hargerpolder
Past Hargen you walk on a car-free road into the vast Harger- and Pettemerpolder. The pattern of meadows and ditches that you see here has been there since the Middle Ages. In the summer, blooming flowers provide a beautiful palette of colours. You pass the Hargermolen, a polder mill from 1804. At the end point you look out over the water of De Putten. In the autumn you can spot spoonbills here on their way to Africa.
