Walking through the beautiful surroundings of Hargen

You can take a beautiful walk around Hargen in North Holland. You walk through the Schoorlse Duinen and the old Harger and Pettemerpolder.

Schoorl Dunes
The route starts at the foot of the Hondsbossche Zeewering. Walk up this ancient sea dike for a beautiful view of the area where you are going for a walk. In the distance lies your first destination: the Schoorlse Duinen, one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. A century ago there was still one large sandpit here. Now you walk on a sloping path through open shifting dunes and dense forests. In between you can enjoy a cozy terrace at Strandpaviljoen Hargen.

Harger Polder
Past Hargen you walk on a low-traffic road into the vast Harger and Pettemerpolder. The pattern of meadows and ditches that you see here has been there since the Middle Ages. In the summer, blooming flowers provide a beautiful color palette. You pass the Hargermolen, a polder mill from 1804. At the end point you look out over the water of De Putten. In autumn you can spot spoonbills on their way to Africa.
